Historically, CSE houses courses taught by the Educational Affairs subdivision of the Computer Science Department -- CS106, CS107, CS108...These are typically high enrollment, high workload, high teaching load courses taught by lecturers. CSE also hosts a few miscellaneous course pages just because it's a readily available host, such as the undergraduate course advisor page. More officious Stanford hosts are unable to host content authored by people who do not have Stanford logins -- CSE can host such content . Basically, CSE provides simple, reliable hosting of web pages for CSE affiliates.
If you are maintaining content on this site, please read the CSE Authoring Guide.
CSE is currently being maintained by me, Nick Parlante. As of Sept 1999, it's pretty well tidied up. The future -- CSE's content could migrate over to leland someday, although currently that's not as slick for authoring as CSE's Appleshare setup. CSE could also become a linux box someday, but the existing 1995 Mac implementation is pretty much holding up.
Cheers!
